At a time when national statistics painted a gloomy picture for UTME candidates, 1.5 million out of 1.9 million scored below 200 points, OAU pre-degree programme quietly achieved what many thought was improbable: an 88% pass rate, with 52 students scoring above 300.

This remarkable feat was not a product of chance. It was the outcome of an intentional, layered strategy to equip students with both academic knowledge and psychological resilience. At the Centre for Distance Learning (CDL), Obafemi Awolowo University, pre-degree students were given a unique academic experience that prioritized results, not just instruction.

The outcome? A performance that far exceeded the national averages. While the country at large struggled with results, OAUCDL students excelled, and internal statistics showed that the efforts made were not in vain. “Our students cannot fail because of the measures we put in place,” one facilitator affirmed. The results validated that conviction.

With the 2025 UTME behind us, the Centre is already setting sights on 2026. “We’ve learned what works, and we’re going to build on it,” the team revealed. Preparation for the next UTME now begins from day one of resumption. Students are not only taught content but are also immersed in a culture of focus, accountability, and high expectations.

“The best place to send your child is the Centre for Distance Learning,” the Programme Coordinator emphasized. “We are not just after making money. We are after making value.”
