JUPEB & Pre‑Degree 2026/2027 FAQ

If you pass Pre-Degree, you're admitted to 100 level. If you pass JUPEB, you're admitted to 200 level. Both are foundation programmes run by OAU's Centre for Distance Learning (CDL) and are not the same as being a substantive OAU student — participants are based at the Moro campus, not the main Ife campus.

Yes, both are fully residential — the school provides accommodation for the duration of the programme.

Based on your chosen subject combination (e.g. CMP = Chemistry/Maths/Physics, BCP, GLE, GLC, GLR, etc.), plus English Language is compulsory for Pre-Degree students. JUPEB students are examined only on their three combination subjects.

Yes. Pre-Degree is essentially a preparatory year — you will still register and sit JAMB (UTME) and work to meet your desired course's cutoff. JUPEB students, on the other hand, generally proceed via Direct Entry after completing the programme (JAMB UTME is optional for JUPEB, but you will still need a JAMB Direct Entry (DE) form to process admission).

Select BCP when applying. During the programme you'll be notified when to formally indicate your actual intended course at the university.

The deadline was officially extended to Friday, August 28, 2026. Applications remain open even after the entrance exam date — intending applicants who haven't registered yet can still apply.

Log in to your Pre-Degree or JUPEB registration portal and check your dashboard — your application number, exam date/time, and other details are shown there. Format examples:

It's fine as long as your exam times don't clash. However, if you end up admitted into both, you cannot run both simultaneously — you'll need to report to the school (or email) to cancel the one you don't want.

Only after the entrance examination results are released — you don't pay school fees before sitting/passing the entrance exam.

No — the hostel/accommodation cost is bundled into the total fee and cannot be separated out, even if you choose private accommodation instead.

Yes. It's a "weeding" exam — a screening test to confirm you can cope with the programme. Only candidates who score at or above the cutoff mark are offered admission.

WAEC/UTME (JAMB)-level material within your subject combination. There is no special "entrance exam syllabus" — just revise your O'Level content in your combination subjects (plus English for Pre-Degree).

40% (this has been the cutoff for the past two years). The cutoff for the current cycle is decided by CDL management after the exam and will be communicated once released — it isn't fixed in advance.

It varies by subject combination, but no combination exceeds 50 questions. Duration is 45 minutes. All questions are multiple choice (objective/MCQ) — there is no essay/theory component.

No dedicated entrance-exam syllabus exists. Use general WAEC and JAMB/UTME past questions in your subject combination. CDL does have some hard-copy past questions at Moro (without answers), but the advice is to practice with standard WAEC/UTME material.

You don't upload it during online application; it will be required physically when you resume/report to school.

Purely for technical familiarization — getting used to the portal interface, navigation, and system setup. The mock questions are dummy questions and do not reflect the actual exam questions or difficulty.

No, but it's strongly advised so nothing surprises you technically on exam day.

• Mock exam: up to 2 attempts.
• Main (official) exam: only 1 attempt allowed.
• The mock exam will be deactivated on your actual exam day — only the real exam will be visible then.

Your portal login (for the registration/application portal, reg.oaucdl.edu.ng) is your email address and the password you chose during application — this is different from the exam portal login above.

A Personal Computer (laptop or desktop) with a functioning webcam is recommended; Windows 10+ or MacOS; updated browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera). Mobile devices with updated browsers can also be used, though a laptop/desktop is preferred. A working microphone is also required, and a steady power/internet connection is essential since the exam cannot be paused once started.

Bring your printed exam slip. If you're using CDL's own CBT hall at Moro, or a cyber café, you'll be charged ₦4,000. If doing it yourself from home, you don't need to print anything — just have the login details.

• Sit in a well-lit, quiet room, and be the only person in the room.
• Your webcam must remain uncovered and your face visible throughout.
• You may not leave your seat, take breaks, receive help, or open other browser tabs/apps during the exam.
• All activity is monitored/recorded.
• Violating any rule leads to automatic disqualification.

You can take it from anywhere with a computer and internet connection — it's online and remote. Long-distance travel to a physical centre is discouraged, but CDL's Moro facility is available (at a fee) for those who prefer it or want assistance.

Your specific date and time slot are stated on your exam slip — you must log in at that exact scheduled time; you cannot take it earlier or later.

No — only one device/login session at a time.

Batch 1 of the entrance exam was scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Candidates whose entrance exam clashed with an ongoing NECO exam were automatically rescheduled to Monday, July 27, 2026. If you're affected and haven't been rescheduled, or you have questions about your specific case, email exams@oaucdl.edu.ng with your details.

The reschedule may not immediately reflect on your portal, but you will still be able to write the exam on July 27. The instruction is to prioritize your NECO paper and write your entrance exam on the 27th.

Both are determined by CDL management after the exam and will be communicated once ready — they are not available in advance.

No — the entrance exam only determines admission into the JUPEB/Pre-Degree programme itself. Cutoffs for entry into OAU proper (post-programme) are determined separately by the main university.

Yes — the hostel cost is built into your total fees, and you cannot opt out or deduct it, even if you'd prefer private accommodation. That said, some have noted your specific accommodation situation may depend on your grade/status after the entrance exam, and exceptions can be requested in writing to management if you have strong reasons to stay elsewhere.

Girls stay on campus (at Moro); boys generally stay off-campus but close by. For girls, if the on-campus hostel is full, those who resume later will be placed off-campus as well. Rooms are typically for a maximum of 4 people (some fewer) — not larger shared dorms.

No — you vacate at the end of your programme to make room for the next intake, the same way you're taking the space vacated by those before you. (Regular OAU/Ife-campus students have separate hostel options, including private accommodation, but that's a different system from JUPEB/Pre-Degree housing at Moro.)

Generally no — JUPEB graduates typically proceed to university via Direct Entry (DE), using a JAMB DE form rather than sitting UTME again.

Yes — Pre-Degree is designed to prepare you to sit (or re-sit) JAMB/UTME and meet your desired course's cutoff mark; it can also support your application if your UTME score falls short of the requirement for your target course.
